AM I MAD?
Am I mad?
What is mad by todayâs standards?
Is it mad to yearn for peace
In todayâs world of overbearing anxiety?
Is it mad to strive to obtain the simple life
Of one who cares to do what is best for others?
Is it mad to want to grow to spiritual ripeness
As does free-falling full fruit from the tree of Life?
Am I mad to want to exalt
The finer things within oneâs soul
In the context that one should hold them
In highest esteem?
Is it mad to share with others the benefit
Of the ripeness of the full spiritual fruit,
That also helps others to flourish
As one nourishes oneself from within?
Is it mad to look with disdain
Upon those who would exploit
And use others for personal gain?
Those who hold near and dear to their heart
All that they would achieve and receive,
Through the cold and uncaring calculation
Of the perceived weakness in others
They believe is a strength in themselves?
Is it mad to want to create, within others,
A higher yearning for learning
Of all that is noble and honourable?
Whose standards would we use,
And in what book should we write
The laurels and the praise
Accepted as the basis for comparison,
And which standards could we live by?
Is it mad to think that a smile,
With no ulterior motive lurking beneath,
Is all that is required for true happiness?
Is it mad to believe that one can exist
On such simplicity, and that one somehow is
Held accountable for all of oneâs actions?
Is it mad to believe in such a higher order
And a much better standard of living?
Is it mad to believe in such things?
If it be madness, so be it.
If it be madness, so be me.
Call me mad, use your own standard.
I will use mine.
For, if I find my happiness
In my personally considered truthful belief
That oneâs madness is comprised
Of such simple personal things
From a warm and loving creative heart,
That seeks to satisfy itself and please others,
Not by othersâ demise or misinterpretation,
But by accentuating the positive
Contained within the potential power
Of the loving spirit within us allâ¦
Call me mad then,
If my contemporaries are others
Who donât seem to share a similar vision
That I see, for we each have a right
To our own separate vision
And interpretation thereof.
Who is to say who is right?
I know what works for me,
And who am I to question
What works and is right for others?
I do, however, believe in some standards
That certainly should be approached
As guidelines for happiness within.
I firmly believe that undermining
Othersâ perceived values and rights,
While imposingly trying to dominate them,
Is definitely not the right thing to do.
Philosophical dispositions may be complicated
In such an ever-changing large world of words,
If you possibly disagree with what I have stated
Maybe youâll call me mad by your standards.
Throw out the standards of the old
If that be your new way of Today.
However, as water will find its own level
And Truth, eventually, comes full-circle,
As what goes around always comes around
And what will not float will surely drownâ¦
Call me mad as I stand upon higher ground.
I choose to flow naturally with the current,
Going with all that is purely good,
Although the natural current of my reality
May not be considered today to be current,
But which I know to be right for me, to my sea.
